Sri Aurobindo and Dynamic Spiritual Hermitage

Sri Aurobindo belongs to well-known Ghosh family of West Bengal in India. He was an extraordinary thinker who moved from deep meditation to sublime philosophy, from poetry to politics with incredible ease and mastery. He revealed unusual powers of intellect and a poetic genius of no mean order, apart from absorbing the very best of Western thoughts and literature, besides mastering Greek and Latin, successfully completed for the Civil Service Examination. He himself withdrawn from the political arena and devote himself completely to the life of spiritual contemplation and illumination. On 4th April 1910 he took up residence at Pondicherry. A hermitage was set up to discover the life divine, in collaboration with a French lady Mira Richard who later became renowned as The Mother (Sri Maa). This Ashram continues as a dynamic spritual center, well known all over the world. In this center, Sri Aurobindo became more and more absorbed in Yoga and Sadhana and became a focal point of the cosmos, a channel for Joy, Light and Life of the Eternal.

  1. Thank you for sharing information about Sri Aurobindo. Sri Aurobindo ” withdrawn from the political arena and devote himself completely to the life of spiritual contemplation and illumination” perhaps neglects the fact that Sri Aurobindo cared very deeply about the situation in India and in the world. His letters make very clear that the route that Gandhi took would have divisive repurcussions. Also his ‘spiritual contemplation’ was a yogic endeavour for man to a higher level of evolution. The Mother undertook a very radical unprecedented yoga which is recorded in the Agenda – these great yogis are ahead of their time.
